1036 Fire Extinguishers- Safe Use (DVD)
Fire extinguishers are one element of a fire response plan, but the primary element is safe escape. Fighting fires can be dangerous. If you use fire extinguishers improperly, or use the wrong type of fire extinguisher, you could endanger yourself and others. Make sure you are familiar with the types and locations of fire extinguishers in your workplace, and learn how to operate them before a fire occurs.
The key training points in this video include:
- Extinguishers should be installed away from any potential fire hazard, and near exits or escape routes.
- Use a fire extinguisher only if the fire is small and confined to its area of origin.
- Do not use fire extinguisher if you are unsure about how to operate it.
- To operate fire extinguisher, use the P.A.S.S. technique.
- Do not try to fight a fire unless you have a clear escape route that will not be blocked by the fire.
