1353 NFPA 70E: Safety Requirements for Electricians (DVD)
On average, at least one person dies from electrocution on the job every day in the US. Thousands more are treated for burns caused by electrical arcing. These incidents are often caused by unsafe work practices in which the energy source was not removed. This is a direct violation of Cal-OSHA rules.
This video shows the energy control "best practices" for OSHA compliance. It includes footage of an arc flash which vividly demonstrates why using correct PPE and observing electrical safety procedures is so essential even during routine procedures like lockout/tagout. It emphasizes that "working live" should never be the first option.
The key training points in this video include:
- Safe work practices for working on electrical equipment in a variety of industrial locations
- How to safely implement both simple and complex lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures
- How to select and properly use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the hazard
- How to conduct a hazard/risk analysis to assure safety before working on live electrical equipment
- How using the Energized Electrical Work Permit process will save lives
